He was rushed to the Alfred Hospital with life-threatening-injuries where he later died.
It’s understood Landsberger was crossing the road on his way to work when he was hit.
Landsberger was an AFL and cricket reporter for the Herald Sun.
He also appeared on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle.
In 2022 Landsberger won the Sports News Quill for his story on Essendon’s then chief executive Andrew Thorburn resigning after one day over links to a controversial church.
Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson said Landsberger was a “genuinely nice bloke” who had an “enormous” future in journalism.
“He loved the game and understood it and he respected his craft,” he said.
“He was such a valuable member of Melbourne’s sports journalism world, someone who could cover all aspects of footy. And people trusted him.”
News Corp Australia executive chairman Michael Miller said Landsberger’s death was felt “profoundly” across the news organisation.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Miller said.
“Sam was an incredibly diligent reporter, always in the office with his phone to his ear talking to his valued football contacts.
“His passion for chasing the big story set him apart from so many.”
The driver of the truck was uninjured and stopped at the scene.
He has spoken to police and was released pending further inquiries.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing,” police said.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
