Proposed bus routes supporting Yanchep rail extension up for public consultation

While the $1.08 billion Yanchep rail extension is yet to have an official opening date, public consultation is now open for proposed bus routes which will complement the three new stations.

The proposed bus routes servicing the new Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep stations and will affect services from Clarkson to Two Rocks.

PTA spokesperson David Hynes said additional bus routes and altering of existing routes would particularly occur in suburbs between Clarkson and Butler.

“Community consultation plays an important part in how we shape our bus services, particularly new bus routes. Community feedback helps us finalise the planning of new bus networks to ensure community needs are met,” he said.

“In accordance with this, Transperth is seeking feedback on new and amended bus routes to support the three new stations for the Yanchep Rail extension.”

Mr Hynes said community feedback is being sought on the proposed routes which will see expanded services to Catalina Estate in Tamala Park, Eden Beach Estate in Jindalee, Alkimos Beach and Shorehaven estates in Alkimos, Amberton Estate in Eglinton and Yanchep’s Capricorn Beach Estate.

“The proposed services for both the Jindalee and Alkimos areas are subject to the completion of the surrounding road network. Services will also extend further north to serve the Atlantis Beach Estate in Two Rocks.”

One stand-out inclusion is the new 479 bus route which under the proposed routes will run from Clarkson station and end at a new bus stop at Mindarie Marina – improving access to the popular precinct.

Frequency of this route will be 20 minutes in peak times, 30 minutes off peak and 60 minutes on weekends and public holidays.

Plans were first shared in a Facebook post by MLA for Butler John Quigley, some comments called for a bus route to reach Yanchep National Park which the current proposed plans did not include.

“I would also love to see a bus route from the train station into Yanchep National Park to accommodate everybody and attract tourists back to the park for the future,” local resident Lisa Aden commented.

“The new bus network will underpin additional transport choice for residents in Perth’s rapidly expanding northern fringe, especially with the new Yanchep Rail extension starting passenger service in coming months,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
