CONTENT Warning shocked gamers when it was released for free on Steam as an April Fools’ joke.
It’s now back to its full, but modest, price, but that didn’t stop it from having viral success with over 200k players at its peak.
Content Warning isn’t the first delightfully silly game developed or published by Landfall, which has a popular library of funny games.
You might be aware of Clustertruck, a game where you race across driving trucks to the finish line, or Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, a silly take on games like Fortnite or PUBG.
Some of Landfall’s games are already free-to-play, but soon there will be one more.
Knightfall: A Daring Journey is another of Landfall’s games that was launched on Steam on April Fools’ Day.
Released on April 1, 2022, up to 28 players pair up in teams of two in a horseback race to reach the castle.
The twist is that you can bring weapons with you, and when night comes, you can take the others out, battle royale-style.
Knightfall initially received positive reviews on Steam, but since then the player base has dwindled.
With fewer players, it’s more difficult to find a game to join, and players have started leaving negative feedback for the game.
Landfall is hoping to boost Knightfall’s popularity, and keep the game alive but making it free-to-play from Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
Unlike other free-to-play games there are no microtransactions, and the game is only being made free-to-play so that more players will join in.
Knightfall will be free-to-play for the foreseeable future, so there is no harm in giving it a try.
