MUMBAI: The 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject, compiled by global higher education experts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, offer a detailed analysis of over 16,400 university programs from 1500+ universities in 95 countries.
The rankings cover 56 academic disciplines and five faculty areas, showcasing India’s remarkable progress in academia. This year, 69 Indian universities secured a position in the rankings with 424 entries, marking a significant 19.4% increase from the previous year.
Impressively, 72% of the Indian entries are either new, improved, or maintained their positions, reflecting a positive trend. India’s overall performance showed a notable 17% year-on-year improvement. In the Asian region, India stands as the second country with 69 featured universities, following Mainland China.
India holds the fourth spot in the total number of ranked entries, trailing behind China, Japan, and South Korea. Notably, the 12 Institutes of Eminence (IoE), representing a fraction of Indian universities, contributed 40% of the country’s total entries, with 47 IoE positions in the top 100. These results highlight the success of the IoE program in driving university rankings improvement, with 82% of IoE entries maintaining or climbing up in the rankings.
