Rangers hero, 53, spotted back in Light Blues kit six months on from brain tumour surgery

MICHAEL MOLS looks to be fighting fit again – just months after undergoing surgery on a brain tumour.

The ex-Rangers striker went under the knife in October last year and was sent numerous well-wishes from former team mates who prayed for a speedy recovery.

Mols, 53, developed a tumour the size of a golf ball and admitted following his operation that he was lucky to still be alive.

The former Netherlands international won the league, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup twice with the Light Blues.

He returned to Ibrox to a hero’s welcome in December, with fans of the Glasgow club reducing him to tears on the pitch as they showed their appreciation and support for the two-time title winner.

He was back up and active just weeks after surgery as he stepped onto an exercise bike and the superfit ex-striker is showing no signs of letting up.

The Dutchman posted a picture of him fighting to get back in shape as he took part in a martial arts training session at a gym in his homeland.

He trained in an old Rangers top, pointing to the badge on his chest for the photo, showing he clearly still has the club – and its fans – in his heart.

The jersey he wore was the 2018-19 season home shirt.

Mols had said on his return to Ibrox last year: “After the operation, I feel much better than before.

“I’m thankful and grateful, and I just want to say thank you, it really means a lot what you’ve done for me.”

And in a previous interview with the Daily Record, he said: “The way I view it now, it’s like I’ve been given a second chance.

“My life before the operation was good.

“But after the surgery, I realised how serious things had gotten for my health.

“Now I’m just grateful and so happy that everything has gone so well.

“I’ve been lucky. I’ve read a lot about brain tumours and spoken to people since I had mine removed and I now realise this is a second chance.

“I now just want to enjoy life as much as possible – and I’m passing that message on to everyone I meet.

“Make sure you enjoy every moment because you never know when it will be your last.

“For me, that can even be just the simple things like having lunch with my wife, having coffee with my friends or watching Rangers at Ibrox.

These are the things I now look forward to every day. I don’t want to take them for granted ever again.”
