GRAEME SOUNESS has revealed his concerns surrounding the decision to extend Philippe Clement’s Ibrox contract.
Clement was appointed Rangers manager in October, after a disastrous start to the season under Michael Beale.
Souness played a part in the decision making which saw the Belgian appointed as Gers boss.
Just ten months later, he still has no doubts Clement is the right man for the job, but he has some reservations about his recent contract extension.
After CEO James Bisgrove departed for Saudi side, Al Qadsiah, Rangers are still yet to fill his role.
And Souness isn’t convinced the Rangers hierarchy has the right football knowledge.

Souness – who held talks over a potential Ibrox return with the departed Bisgrove – told TalkSport: “My concern – and this isn’t me touting for a job, trust me that ship has sailed.
“I worry about where the football knowledge of the board is.
“I’d say this to their face if they were sitting here.
“I was part of the recruitment process for the new manager and met the people who are running the football club and I just felt ‘Who do they ask a question?
“I think Philippe Clement is a good manager and given the right support he will do well.
“I’m hoping they listen to the manager because I didn’t meet anyone with any history in the professional game.
“John Greig is there but he doesn’t have any sway and wouldn’t want any sway.
“He’s an old boy now and he’s still very much got his marbles but I don’t think he would involved in that and I don’t see who they are leaning on for football knowledge.
“I’m slightly mystified Philippe Clement has signed a new contract – before you do that I’d like guarantees that you’re going to get some more players in.
“I like what he did last year and if he’s given help it would not be impossible for Rangers to win the league.”
Bisgrove made the decision to appoint former first-team coach Michael Beale as manager, following the departure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
After a calamitous reign as Gers boss, Clement took over, and now with Bisgrove out of the picture, Souness believes Rangers need to be careful when selecting their replacement.
