NIGEL SPACKMAN has lent his voice to a Graeme Souness return to Ibrox.
The former Gers boss has been lined up as a potential football advisory role after playing a role in the management recruitment of Philippe Clement.
Souness sounded out potential candidates to replace Michael Beale alongside kingmakers James Bisgrove and John Bennett.
But a permanent role could still be in the offing despite both sides failing to reach an agreement earlier this year.
And that would be good news for the Ibrox club AND new boss Clement, says Spackman, who was signed by the Liverpool legend.
Speaking to the Daily Record he said: “When it comes to the owners, I would be saying, ‘whatever Graeme wants us to do, let’s do it’. Graeme has a wealth of experience in football. He’s obviously been involved in football for his entire life at every single level.

“And even in recent years, he has been doing a lot of TV work away from the UK in European games.
“We’ve worked together a lot doing all kinds of games from the Spanish, Italian and German leagues, the Champions and Europa League. He’s built up a lot of knowledge on the current game.
“It would be hugely beneficial to Philippe. Graeme would not be there as a threat.
“He’s not looking to get back into management – his sole motivation is helping Rangers. He had a part in appointing Philippe and he will be determined to help him be successful.
“To have a soundboard in someone like Graeme would be beneficial to any manager.”
Souness revealed his role in the Belgian’s appointment and was impressed by his interview, CV and presentation stating “everything would appear right about him”.
That led to him being appointed Rangers 19th permanent boss – succeeding Souness who was eighth when moved back to Scotland in the late-1980s as player-manager, sparking a revolution at Ibrox that helped bring nine-in-a-row and a period of dominance in the decade that followed.
He has returned to work for the club on Rangers TV in the past and was in discussions for a more formal role earlier this year.
But while the club was keen on an ambassadorial role – Souness fancied a more hands on position using his decades of experience in the game.
Now “things are moving” on an advisory role, according to Souness’ pal and talkSPORT host Jim White.
