Rangers star Kemar Roofe back fit for Sparta Prague – as Philippe Clement brands another Ibrox star a ‘serious doubt’

PHILIPPE CLEMENT admits he has another “serious, serious doubt” in his Rangers squad ahead of meeting Sparta Prague at Ibriox tomorrow.

The Rangers treatment room has had a revolving door this season and another weekend hero has just joined the queue.

But he DOES have Kemar Roofe back and could gamble on the returning striker‘s fitness “even just for five or ten minutes”.

Clement revealed Viaplay Cup hero Scott Wright – who shot down Hearts at Hampden – missed training ahead of the Europa league crunch.

And his participation against the Czech side seems unlikely, branded a “serious, serious doubt” by the boss.

He joins Nico Raskin and John Souttar on the sidelines though Rabbi Matondo has finally returned to first-team training too, as has Roofe.

Clement quipped: “I’d hope to speak more about the fit players because at the moment I’m always talking about the ones who are not fit.”

The boss welcomed Borna Barisic and Tom Lawrence back at the weekend but has not had his problems to seek since taking over from Michael Beale.

he urged his players to make more use of the facilities for recovery includuing the cryotherapy chamber at the training ground.

And his latest pre-match update though included news on Roofe “although it’s really really early for him”.

Clement explained: “For five or ten minutes, you never know.

“It wont be more than that.

“We are missing quite a few players because they are not in the list or because of injury so we need to make a pragmatic choice.

“I don’t like if a player has that long out and just trains then I give him a selection but it’s necessary for the moment.”

Roofe played in the 2-1 defeat to Aris Limassol and 1-0 Real Betis victory but missed the clash in Prague and the early days of Clement’s reign.

Despite the mixed injury uncertainty, the boss insists he is going for a win at his first European experience of Ibrox tomorrow night – and to build on successes at Dundee and Hampden.

He said: “There have been a lot of first moments the past few weeks so this is another.

“At Hampden and Dundee there’s a change in the supporters – much more positivity in the atmosphere.

The drive when the players come to the warm-up gives them energy – I hope to have that tomorrow night and maybe a little bit more.

“European night are always special – it always have been – I love it.”

“To be clear I always want to win and want a team who always wants to win – if it’s against Prague or Real Madrid it doesn’t matter – I a team who is ambitious and wants to win, not draw.

“It can be at the end of the series that a draw can be good but we’ll play to win.”
