HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says, every 33 seconds, one person dies from heart disease in the United States.
About 695,000 people in the United States died from heart disease in 2021. That’s one in every five deaths.
On Monday, the Greenup County Health Department offered free heart health screenings to promote heart health. Though the screenings are done, the work is not, and the health department says resources and consultation are available.
“As a public health entity, here at the Greenup County Health Department, we want to be the resource for the community that if they have questions, we have experts that can answer those questions, and we want them to know we are available,” Public Health Director Chris Crum said.
High blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and smoking are key risk factors for heart disease.
