Riccardo Tisci to guest edit Boy.Brother.Friend’s next issue

Riccardo Tisci has been announced as the first-ever guest editor and creative director of Boy.Brother.Friend, a London-based publication that “explores Africa and African diaspora and identities through contemporary art, fashion, and theory”.

He’ll be editing Issue 8 that will hit the newsstands in July. 

It will be themed around ‘Faith’, which we’re told is “a subject close to Tisci’s life and work”. It will take in “questions around contemporary belief systems including faith as trust, faith as community, faith in the future, faith in possibility and other inclusive conceptions of faith”.

Known for his belief in creative collaboration, Tisci will be in dialogue with Boy.Brother.Friend’s founder and editor KK Obi as he “spotlight[s] existing and emerging creativity coming in and out of Africa and its diaspora”.

As well as creatively directing the 40+ page fashion cover story starring Michaela Coel, he’s “assembling a host of creatives and cultural catalysts to curate and create pages for the issue”.

And along with the announcement, Inez and Vinoodh have shot a teaser cover image that has just been unveiled. 

Tisci said he’s followed the work Boy.Brother.Friend has been doing to “spotlight the voices of those often under-represented” and the link-up now allows him to “use my platform to power and propel the enormous wealth of African and African diaspora talent and cultural pioneers working today”.

And KK Obi added that Tisci is a “trailblazer” and since the early days of the publication, he’s “encouraged and supported our work and mission”.

Tisci has close links with London and its creative-cultural output having trained at Central Saint Martins and later having been creative chief at its premier luxury label, Burberry.
