LA coroner’s office informed his brother, Lenny Simmons, of the details early on Wednesday, family spokesperson Tom Estey said.

Estey said the coroner ruled Richard’s death was accidental, with recent falls and underlying heart disease being contributing factors.

The toxicology report was clear, except for medications Simmons had been prescribed.

“This morning, Richard Simmons’ brother, Lenny, received a call from the LA Coroner’s office,” Estey told People.

“The coroner informed Lenny that Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor.

“The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed.

“The family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.”

Housekeeper Teresa Reveles found Simmons dead on July 13, just a day after his 76th birthday,

TMZ previously reported Simmons had fallen in his bathroom the night before he died.

His housekeeper urged him to seek medical attention but he refused “because he just wanted to stay home for his birthday”.

The outlet said the housekeeper helped him back to bed but found him unresponsive on the floor the next morning.

He had reportedly been feeling dizzy before the fall.

Soon after news of Simmons’ death broke, his brother insisted he did not want people to be sad and would prefer his life to be celebrated instead.

“I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives. He truly cared about people,” he told People.

“He called, wrote and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help. So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life.

“He was very excited about all of his upcoming ventures he was working on. We are in shock. Please respect the family at this difficult time.”

He was laid to rest in a private ceremony on July 26.
