Rockies’ Kris Bryant expected to go on injured list, Bud Black says

Injuries continue to plague Kris Bryant.

Rockies manager Bud Black said after the team’s 12-7 loss to the Reds on Wednesday that he expects the first baseman and designated hitter to go on the injured list again as he deals with another injury to his back.

“Kris didn’t respond to treatment today, so it looks like it’s going to be more than a few days,” Black said. “…Hopefully (Bryant) can come back in the 10-day period.”

Bryant tweaked his back Sunday while making a twisting catch against the wall in the eighth inning of the Rockies’ 4-0 loss to the Dodgers on June 2. The former Cubs star and World Series champion did not play in Colorado’s three-game series against the Reds.

He has played in just 28 games this season, hitting for .186 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 101 plate appearances.

Bryant was placed on the injured list on April 17 due to a strained lower back, causing him to miss 31 games. Since returning from the injured list on May  21, he has posted a .222 batting average.

“There’s frustration because Kris wants to play and these different types of injuries have cropped up,” Black said.

“Hopefully, this will resolve itself relatively quick and get him back on the field. And hopefully, get some momentum performance-wise where we see the real Kris Bryant.”
