Roger Cook: Premier says ‘right balance’ in compensation for Indigenous WA people in stolen wages scandal

Premier Roger Cook says the “right balance” has been struck in long-awaited compensation for Aboriginal West Australians who were dudded over decades in the stolen wages scandal, after lawyers secured a hefty payout but less than what was hoped.

Shine Lawyers began mediation with the WA Government in 2021 on behalf of up to 14,000 people who worked on WA farms, cattle stations and in institutions from 1936 and 1972, and a settlement was announced on Wednesday.
