ROKU owners are fuming after the latest update changed their TV’s settings making the quality “unwatchable”.
And worse still, they can’t switch it back.
It’s only a couple of months since users vented about Roku starting to display ads on device screens.
Now a new software upgrade has randomly turned on motion smoothing settings for some viewers.
Motion smoothing is a common option found on TVs that’s designed for fast-movement such as sports and action movies so they’re clearer to see.
But it can over smooth moments during more slow moving scenes.
There is a button to turn it off on Roku devices in the Expert Settings.
The only issue is it doesn’t appear to work, according to complaints on Roku forums and Reddit.
“There is no setting to turn it off,” one user wrote.
“I’ve had this tv for a couple years and this hasn’t been an issue.”
Another raged: “The TV is unwatchable as it stands.”
A third commented: “Holy s*** I just noticed this today, it looks so bad now.”
Roku has responded to users saying it is “aware of this issue” and “currently investigating it”.
