Ronwen Williams was the hero once again as his penalty saves helped Bafana Bafana overcome DR Congo 6-5 on penalties to finish third in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations(Afcon).
The Mamelodi Sundowns inspired his nation to the semi-finals of the tournament after producing four saves against Cape Verde in a shootout.

Williams is a favourite to win the Golden Glove alongside Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali, who only conceded two goals so far in the tournament. The Chippa United keeper made two fine saves during a penalty shootout with Bafana to guide the Super Eagles to their first Afcon final in 10 years.

Williams has kept five cleansheet at the Afcon and made crucial saves to keep Bafana in the tournament. His contributions throughout the competition solidified his status as a key figure for South Africa.

Should Nigeria beat Ivory Coast in the final and keep a cleansheet, Nwabali could be awarded the Golden Glove as he would have kept the same number of cleansheets as Williams.

The 2023 Afcon comes to a close on Sunday with host Ivory Coast taking on Nigeria at 22:00.
