RSPCA searching for culprit after cat left for dead with multiple gun shot wounds in Huntingdale

Investigators are searching for the culprit of a shocking act of animal cruelty after a cat was abandoned on a suburban driveway with gunshot wounds.

RSPCA WA is calling for answers after a woman found the black and white cat on her driveway on Patrick Way, Huntingdale dragging his back legs and unable to walk on Monday, October 2.

A vet found the cat had been shot twice, once in the spine and once in the chest, which had left him paralysed in his back legs and tail. The vet decided euthanasia was the kindest option.

It is understood the cat was a stray as it didn’t have a microchip or a collar.

RSPCA WA inspector manager Kylie Green said they were keen to catch the person responsible.

“The thought of someone deliberately shooting at a cat and leaving it to suffer is just horrendous,” she said.

“Imagine the pain and confusion he would have been in for goodness knows how long.

“It’s quite sickening to think there’s someone out there who thinks this kind of cruelty is OK.”

This most recent act of cat cruelty comes following the drowning of a loved family pet in Bayswater in August.

In 2022, Max Loketi was jailed for 12 months after he tortured and maliciously beat a cat to death as his friend laughed and recorded the act of cruelty.

The maximum penalty for animal cruelty is a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.

Anyone with information on the gunshot-wounded cat is urged to contact the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 358 or via rspcawa.org.au.
