SA youngster heading to the Netherlands?

South African football fans could begin to see more and more players leaving local shores next season including Ime Okon

There were already a whole heap of Bafana Bafana players linked to a move abroad after Afcon.

Teboho Mokoena, Khuliso Mudau and Evidence Makgopa have been the subject of rumours to clubs abroad. Those international links have also gone beyond the Bafana Bafana camp. The likes of Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng joining their Orlando Pirates teammate Makgopa on the list.

Mofokeng, seems to represent a new generation of South Africans that are targeted abroad. He underwent an assessment at English Premier League side Wolves last year. There has also been talk of SuperSport United duo Shandre Campbell and Okon being monitored by European clubs.

It was recently reported that SuperSport are holding out for interest from top European leagues for Okon. Now according to Soccer-Laduma the player has attracted interested from Dutch side PEC Zwolle. He could also leave for an assessment at the end of the season.

“The player (Okon) is attracting more interest from Europe. In January he was in Denmark for trials and assessment and this time around there is a Dutch club interested in him. He can’t go now and that’s why there are plans that he should go for assessment after the season has ended. I don’t think there is much that could be done now and that’s why they would wait for the end of the season”. Said the source.

The source went on to add that either Zwolle or Midtjylland FC from Denmark could be Okon’s destination.

Zwolle show interest in Okon?

“For now, there are a few more clubs that have been monitoring his (Okon) progress and have inquired about him, but I don’t think the team would want to put that pressure on him. I think they are looking at these two PEC Zwolle from Holland and Midtjylland FC from Denmark for now. Let’s wait and see what will happen after the season ends first,” concluded the source.

In the past, SuperSport had strong ties to Dutch football, will they be reignite by an Okon deal?
