Tongue-in-cheek, WA’s favourite daughter Sam Kerr has agreed her future nuptials with new fiancee Kristie Mewis could be classed as a soccer royal wedding.
In a new interview with Esquire magazine, Kerr opens up about her love for the American, with their engagement announcement on Instagram last month confirming them as one of the world’s sporting power couples.
On the same day, Kerr was posing up in London for the stylish photo shoot, wearing Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren among others.
She tells the magazine about her Perth childhood and the indigenous stars she had on her wall. Cathy Freeman was one.
And high flying Eagle Ashley Sampi was the other.
“The only memories I have of being a kid are of sports,” she says.
“I was always playing cricket in the backyard with the neighbours—[sport] has been the centrepoint of my family and my life for as long as I can remember. (And Sampi) was always one of my idols because I used to love doing crazy stuff like that.”
