San Ramon Valley wins at Damien

San Ramon Valley 67, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy 62

San Ramon Valley will be going for its second consecutive Gold Division championship at the Classic at Damien on Saturday night after defeating SPXSM. 

SRV’s opponent was ranked No. 25 in the country by MaxPreps. The Wolves will play Dixie-Utah in the final. 

“Could not be more proud of them!,” San Ramon Valley coach Brian Botteen wrote in an email to the Bay Area News Group. 

Luke Isaak finished with 19 points, and senior big Seamus Deely had a double-double for the second straight game with 15 points and 13 rebounds. 

Jack Moxley put in 12 points as the third scoring option for the Wolves, which beat Ironwood in last season’s final at Damien.

St. John Bosco 68, No. 2 Salesian 66

Salesian pushed one of Southern California’s elite teams to the overtime in the Damien Platinum Division semifinal. 

Salesian wing Alvin Loving sent the game to extra time when he made a layup with six seconds left in regulation.

De’Undrae Perteete scored Salesian’s first five points in overtime, and after Bosco took a two-point lead on a Brandon McCoy basket, Aaron Hunkin-Claytor tied the game again on a backdoor layup.

But when Elzie Harrington converted a layup for Bosco, Salesian could not pull out one more rabbit out of its crunch-time hat. 

Salesian dropped to 12-1 on the season. 

Owyhee-Idaho 71, No. 1 De La Salle 61

The Spartans lost for the second straight day at the Classic at Damien in the Platinum Division, despite 23 points and 10 rebounds from guard Alec Blair.

Backcourt mate Leo Ricketts also scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds, while forward David Balogun scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. 

De La Salle dropped to 11-2. 

Carlsbad 71, No. 3 Archbishop Mitty 67

Mitty’s run to the title game at Torrey Pines ended against Carlsbad despite big games from its stars. Gavin Ripp scored 12 points, and Tyler Jones scored 22 points. Nathan d’Abreu Noronha put in 10 points for the Monarchs, and Grayson Jalal scored 13 points for the San Jose school.

Berkeley 80, Douglas-Nevada 46

The Yellowjackets steamrolled their competition from Nevada at the Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines. Samir O’Brien led all scorers with 17 points. 

Dougherty Valley 60, Desert Pines-Nevada 58

Aadi Malali scored a game-high 21 points as Dougherty Valley improved to 10-4 with another victory at Torrey Pines. Dougherty Valley, the defending EBAL champions, has won seven of its last eight games. 

Canyon View-Arizona 68, Bellarmine 62

Bellarmine forward Julian Gospich played valiantly in defeat at Torrey Pines, scoring 24 points while making two three-pointers. Nick Corbett scored 16 points and Will Corbett also scored 11 for Bellarmine.
