A West Australian may have received the news of their life on Saturday night as one lucky local holds the ticket to winning more than $1 million.
As one of four winners Australia-wide in the division one prize pool, the Saturday Lotto player will be receiving $1,244,104.42.
The winning numbers are 42, 37, 4, 45, 10 and 38, while the supplementary numbers are 36 and 15.
It seems West Australians are only getting luckier after a Morley newsagency sold three winning syndicates in just two weeks.
Bishop Street Newsagency manager Peter Nguyen explained how it all unfolded.
“It was just a fluke that we managed to get two of them,” Nguyen said.
“We didn’t know at the time but we got the same numbers and we made a new syndicate with 10 shares and so it happens there are two syndicates with the same numbers.”
One of the winning tickets happened to be a group of five people who paid roughly $70 each for a system 11 and who are regulars at the Morley store.
Those five customers received almost $200,000 each but Nguyen said one came close to being denied her share.
“She called us up, and she’s like, ‘I’ve lost my ticket. I don’t know where it is.’”
Peter and his mum and dad — Bishop Street Newsagency owners Tina and Tam — encouraged the customer to calm down and keep looking in the hopes that it would pop up somewhere.
It turned out the winning customer had left her ticket on the floor of the newsagency.
“Two hours go by and she calls us again. She’s in tears. She can’t believe that she lost her ticket,” Nguyen said.
“That’s when we tell her, you have to come to the shop quick because a customer had found a ticket on the floor with your name on it.”
“That ticket was worth $198,000 and she left it on the floor for two hours.”
