A fashionable crowd helped to raise more than $2 million at Tuesday night’s spring gala for the Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
This year’s initiative at the Plaza Hotel in New York City focused on artificial intelligence and noninvasive technologies for oncologic dermatology in order to fund research using advanced technology to improve detection and reduce the side effects of cancer treatment on the skin. Veronica Rotemberg, M.D., Ph.D., leads that team.
Guests included Scarlett Johansson, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Meghan and Adam Klopp, Coco and Arie Kopelman, Carol Mack, Ashley and Jeffrey McDermott, Anjali Melwani, Gillian and Sylvester Miniter, Claudia Overstrom, Marcie and Jordan Pantzer, Alexandra Lind Rose, Virginia and Walter Tomenson, Priya Shukla and Ralph Totoonchie.
The Society of MSK’s 17th Annual Spring Ball’s fundraising has helped lead to groundbreaking improvements in cancer detection, according to the organization’s president, Muffie Potter Aston.
As part of its 75-year history of philanthropy, the Society of MSK hosted the opening night of the European Fine Art Foundation New York earlier this month at the Park Avenue Armory.
That initiative raised more than $480,000 for innovations in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care at MSK, and it benefited the center’s programs supported by the Society of MSK. The event was sponsored by Prada. Mark Ronson, Grace Gummer, Brooke Sinclair, Martha Stewart, Jamie Tisch and Vera Wang were among the attendees at the opener.
There were 91 galleries housed in this year’s edition of the TEFAF New York exhibition, which showcased modern and contemporary art, jewelry, antiquities and design. Among the more fashion-focused finds were Galerie Kreo’s Virgil Abloh’s bronze piece “Tower Hills 2021,” Galleria D’Arte Maggiore’s third and final available edition of a 2013 photograph of Kate Moss by the British artist Allen Jones and Didier Ltd.’s Man Ray-designed gold pendant earrings that were once worn by the French actress Catherine Deneuve.
