In a city as dynamic and diverse as Hong Kong, the narrative that defines it on the world stage is ever-changing. The story, traditionally one of hustle, bustle and skyscrapers, is being written by a new generation of trailblazers – innovators, creatives and global citizens who are shaping the city’s future in unprecedented ways.

This evolving international story of Hong Kong is now at the very heart of a bold new marketing drive launched by the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The campaign shines a spotlight on the people and perspectives that are transforming Hong Kong’s global image.

“As the city’s news media of record, we tell the story of Hong Kong to local and global audiences,” said Kevin Huang, chief operating officer, South China Morning Post. “This latest campaign shines a light on the people who work with the SCMP and are shaping and reimagining our city’s future in unprecedented ways.”

Today, the SCMP partners with influential leaders in the arts, culture, travel and business sectors – those who are driving the narrative within their own industries. Through their partnerships with the SCMP they are now helping to craft the international story and perception of Hong Kong.

“Hong Kong is the only place in the world where the global advantage and the China advantage converge,” said Alpha Lau, Director-General of Invest Hong Kong, a government department charged with facilitating foreign direct investment and helping overseas businesses set up in the city. “Media partnerships play a crucial role for us to tell the Hong Kong story to audiences around the world, and this is why we choose the SCMP.”

Art is a universal language that bridges cultures and people, and Angelle Siyang-Le, director of Art Basel Hong Kong, says the city acts as a superconnector. This is why choosing the right media partner to tell that story is important to her organisation.

“Hong Kong is a cultural hub of Asia,” she said. “We not only just have international galleries, we also have local art spaces and world-class museums such as M+, which serve as a platform to bring people and cultures together and really amplify our stories to the rest of the world.”

Meanwhile, Edward Bell, general manager of brand, insights, and marketing communications at Cathay Pacific, believes travel is at the heart of Hong Kong’s story, making it a better place for all.

“Positioned pretty much 10 hours to everywhere, Hong Kong is uniquely international and has the East-West experience. It’s just got an amazing location at the heart and centre of a big wheel of the world,” he said. “That’s why we value working with the SCMP, which is renowned for its quality and integrity.”
