A MAJOR update is set to be announced about ScotRail train fares, and it is good news for passengers.
The rail operator launched a pilot scheme scrapping peak rail fares last October.
It meant passengers paid the same price for tickets instead of forking out for higher prices during busier times.
It was rolled out in a bid to boost rail travel after the pandemic after passenger numbers dropped.
The scheme was supposed to last until March of this year, but it was extended until June 28.
The move was welcomed by commuters, with tickets costing as much as £28 being slashed to half price.
But there is set to be more good news for passengers as the scheme is set to be extended.
First Minister John Swinney is expected to announce peak fares will be scrapped for a further three months.
It would mean customers will continue paying off-peak prices until September.
