Scottie Scheffler charges expected to be dropped after arrest

The charges against Scottie Scheffler stemming from a May 17 arrest before the second round of the PGA Championship in Louisville, Ky., are expected to be dropped, according to a new report.

Terry Meiners of the local Kentucky outlet WHAS reported Wednesday that the agreement between parties “stipulates that both sides agree not to pursue any legal action related to the ramifications” of Scheffler’s detainment earlier this month outside Valhalla Golf Club, where there was an alleged miscommunication over traffic flow in the wake of a fatal accident involving a shuttle bus near the course.

Scheffler, 27, was subsequently charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officer directing traffic.

He was released from custody before the start of his second-round tee time and finished the tournament at 13-under par.

The report came hours before Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell is set to speak on the charges Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Steve Romines, Scheffler’s lawyer, is expected to address the matter afterward.

Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion, competed in the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, this past weekend.
