CELTIC are chasing £10million Belgian wonderkid Arne Engels.
And the champions are also eyeing a shock move for Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan.
The Hoops confirmed the £9.5m arrival of Adam Idah on a five-year deal, as Brendan Rodgers ramps up his summer spending.
Midfielder Engels, 20, was a standout for Augsburg in the Bundesliga last season, and was close to making Belgium’s Euro 2024 squad. The former Club Brugge starlet still has three years left on his contract, but is available in this window.
German sources claim Augsburg want around £10m, which would be a record fee for Celtic.
Versatile Engels can also play right-back and right wing, but his best position is central midfield.
He appears to be an ideal replacement for Matt O’Riley, although Celts are holding out for £25m as Atalanta push for the Dane.
The Italians are poised to sell Teun Koopmeiners to Juventus for £50m and want his replacement in.
Southampton and Brighton are also keen, but Saints boss Russell Martin has revealed their hopes are fading.
He said: “We are not in the race right now.”
Engels joined Augsburg for around £100,000 in January 2023, and has made 50 Bundesliga appearances, earning the ten-cap Under-21 a call- up to the full squad.
Meanwhile, Dee ace McCowan is viewed as a player to bolster Celts’ squad as they juggle their Euro and domestic commitments.
The 26-year-old is also wanted by Hibs, who had a £750,000 bid KO’d.
But SunSport understands Dens chiefs expect an offer from Celtic for McCowan.
Idah’s deal is done, though, and he said: “I think everyone knew where I wanted to be.
“It’s amazing for me, and I’m delighted to be back here.”
Rodgers added: “The club has done brilliantly to secure this long-term deal for Adam.
“We’re investing in a player of quality who will be crucial for us over the next few years.”
Celtic remain in the market for a left-back, striker and centre-half.
