Screen Queen TV reviews: Renee Gracie, Dancing For The Devil, Alone Australia and I Think You Should Leave

Revealed — Renee Gracie: Fireproof

Sunday, streaming on Stan

Renee Gracie isn’t a name I was familiar with until yesterday.

It’s a shame really, because she’s a fascinating and extremely talented woman, whose ascension up the ranks in the notoriously male-dominated world of V8 supercar racing is worthy of a doco in itself.

But that’s not what this is about.

This excellent locally produced documentary from the all-female Western Australian creative team of Frances Elliott and Samantha Marlowe, with Cody Greenwood producing, is all about Gracie’s attempts to re-enter the sport she loved after leaving to become . . . an adult entertainment star.

Yep, that’s right: Gracie left the world of motorsport and recreated herself via racy content online, amassing a fortune via her OnlyFans page in the process.

Now she wants back in — but on her own terms, and this film charts her journey.

As an official press release reads, “using Renee’s individual experiences, the documentary uncovers the exploitation, empowerment and resilience behind Renee’s unconventional success story, and examines the greater injustices faced by women in competitive sport as a whole”.

And when I tell you there are injustices — you will not BELIEVE what this woman has endured.

Audiences will be screaming at their televisions when they hear her recount what transpired, ready to pick up a pitchfork when the men interviewed in this film speak on the record. They say some truly outrageous things, and honestly: ever heard of media training?

This left me incandescent with rage — and amped to see what Gracie does next.

Wait, there’s a so-called “cult” in the United States run by a pastor who manages TikTok dancers? And those dancers are being coerced into dancing for the Lord in a mansion in Beverly Hills?

OK, so not quite, but trust me when I say you’ll want to check out this three-part doco, which focuses on TikTok star Melanie Wilking, who claims her sister Miranda was lured into joining Robert Shinn’s 7M dance management company a few years back.

Since then, the doco reports Miranda has had limited contact with her family. Other dancers have alleged that Shinn exerts too much control over his charges. He denies the allegations, as does Miranda.

You be the judge. This story will have everyone talking

We’re at that point in the competition where participants can be separated into two camps: those who could continue living wild forever, and those who are close to death by starvation. Who will win? Who will die? I’ll be tuning in to find out when the finale drops, then sticking around for the reunion hosted by Hamish Blake.

There are certain skits from this weird-as-heck show that live rent-free in my head (those women at brunch talking about Instagram — forever hilarious). Can’t wait to stuff in a few more when the third season hits screens.

Only just discovered this great British comedy, all about a punk band made up of Muslim women. As hilariously subversive as it sounds — a hidden gem.
