A Rottnest Island rock lobster fishing cruise has received top honours at the WA Seafood Industry Awards.
Sea West won the seafood experience award for its premium catch and dine cruises, which run from Rottnest Island and Mandurah and give those aboard a chance to catch their own before it’s cooked onboard by a private chef.
Director Peter Robinson said the Sea West team “work tirelessly … to share their passion for WA, our oceans and our produce with all our visitors”.
“We’re privileged to work in an incredible place; our pristine marine environment supports world-class seafood produced in a sustainable manner,” he said.
“This is something which visitors are blown away by.
“This means the fresh lobster we catch on our cruises is complemented by a plethora of extraordinary local ocean delicacies — scallops, prawns, octopus, barramundi, as a few examples.
“We consider ourselves very lucky to do what we do and be supported by excellent suppliers and producers.”
The annual awards celebrate excellence across WA’s seafood sector and were presented by the WA Fishing Industry Council on May 3.
Fisheries Minister Don Punch commended the industry for its place as “a world leader in sustainable fisheries”.
“WA’s seafood industry is important to our State, generating more than a billion dollars a year in economic impact and employing more than 6000 people across a range of areas from fishing and processing to marine science and transport,” he said.
