A woman who suffered severe injuries after she was mauled by her two pet rottweilers could soon have her second dog euthanased after the local council deemed the animal “dangerous”.
Nikita Piil, 31, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital on September 16 with arm and leg injuries after being attacked by her dogs, Bronx and Harlem.
Her family said she had since undergone several surgeries and battled a bacterial infection.
Seven-year-old Bronx was euthanased after police were required to shoot the dog when tasers failed.
But first responders managed to lock Harlem in the garage at the time of the attack.
Following the attack, the City of Cockburn launched a probe into the incident.
Head of community safety and ranger services Michael Emery said the seized dog had since been declared “dangerous”.
The dog remains housed in an animal management facility.
“Ms Piil, or her delegate, has until Saturday … to comply with the state’s keeping of dangerous dog requirements,” Mr Emery said in a statement.
“If Ms Piil cannot comply, the city will have no option but to euthanase the dog, following any appeal period.”
There were complaints made about the dogs last year for “excessive barking” but no reports of attacks before the violent incident.
In a social media post in 2020, Ms Piil referred to the dogs as her “babies”.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $18,000 to cover the cost of Ms Piil’s medical bills.
Her family said she “got caught in a crossfire calming her dogs down” when she was attacked.
“We nearly lost our precious girl a couple of times … but as you all know, Nikita is our little fighter,” they said.
