However, Service NSW said on Wednesday morning it was also facing difficulties due to the outage.

“Due to the Optus outage, calls to 13 77 88 may not work,” it said in a notice.

Alternative numbers are available on the website’s service status page.

NSW Premier Chris Minns told reporters on Wednesday the department “sincerely apologise” for the outage.

“There has been limited disruptions to the transport system in the state, but significant disruptions to Service NSW and our senior managers are working with senior operators to get those services back online,” he said.

Meanwhile, several other providers on the Optus network such as Moose Mobile, Dodo, Coles Mobile, Aussie Broadband and Amaysim also appear to be impacted by the outage.

“We are currently experiencing issues with our upstream mobile network, hosted by Optus,” Aussie Broadband said.

“This means Aussie mobile customers may not be able to make or receive calls or SMS, or use mobile data.”

Optus has said it is aware of the issue, but has not elaborated on the reason for the sudden outage or indicated how long the outage may last.
