Seven’s broadcast of Matildas’ win over Canada smashes national and local TV ratings

It seems Australia can’t get enough of our beloved Matildas, with their triumph over Canada in the FIFA Women’s World Cup a smash hit for Seven — reaching 4.71 million Aussies on Monday night.

The soccer stars’ victory has become Seven’s most-watched program of this year so far, attracting an average national audience of 2.42 million, including a national broadcast audience of 2.16 million viewers on Seven and another 260,000 viewers on 7plus — a record for an individual event on 7plus.

In WA, it was also the top program of the night, reaching 177,000 fans with 131,000 right here in Perth.

The Matildas’ 4-0 victory saw it top Group B. They will now face the second-placed team in Group D in Sydney next Monday with England, Denmark and China all possible opponents.

Matildas v Canada was the number one broadcast program on Monday night nationally with 7News and 7News at 6.30 leading behind.

The game peaked at 2.68 million viewers on broadcast and was most popular with people aged 16 to 39 years old, taking out 57 per cent of the total audience.

More than 106 million minutes of content has also been watched on 7plus to date.

Watch China v England battle it out on the field live and free on 7mate and 7plus from 8.30pm AEST on Tuesday night.

Then tune in when the Matildas take on the Group D winner from 8pm AEST next Monday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
