North Perth’s Ashlee Beaumont wasn’t going to be put off fishing, despite being more than four months pregnant.
While on a holiday at Coral Bay, she headed out on her dad’s boat.
They fished in 75m of water, with Ashlee using a Shimano Beastmaster electric reel.
Using heads of squid caught in Coral Bay a couple of weeks earlier as bait, the intrepid fisher hooked up to a good fish.
It took her around 10 minutes to get the fish up from the bottom, initially fearing it was a shark.
It turned out to be a ripper of a red emperor that weighed 11kg.
Her biggest red previously was 10kg so Ashlee was delighted to claim a new personal best.
Ashlee has also won a Shimano lure wrap tackle box, which she can pick up from any of WA’s three Compleat Angler and Camping World stores, and is in the running to win the monthly prize of a Shimano combo.
