Shire of Murray releases youth activities calendar with free programs from yoga to virtual reality

The Shire of Murray has launched its youth events series, promising a fun mix of activities from art to yoga and virtual reality.

Activities include yoga for young women aged 11 to 17, a free sausage sizzle and games at Pinjarra Skate Park on March 10, a sketchbook art drop-in session and opportunities to try out virtual reality programs.

There will also be pop-up youth zones at Adventurescape Playground in South Yunderup in March, movie and popcorn sessions, plus educational programs including a basic car maintenance and DIY workshop run by Pinjarra Community Men’s Shed.

Shire president David Bolt said the calendar of activities was developed to support “the future of Murray”.

“In the recent community survey, young people expressed a need for safe and affordable spaces to socialise, along with wanting to see more youth activities and events in the Murray region,” he said.

“It has been fantastic to work with students from all the Murray schools at recent youth forums to hear their ideas.

“Many of these upcoming activities have been designed by them and it’s promising to be a great mix of events and programs.”

The shire’s most recent forum on February 26 comprised more than 60 students from local schools.

Students planned and presented ideas to a panel of judges, with winning ideas set to be brought to life as part of Youth Week from April 5 to 12.
