Alberto Noé has been appointed president and CEO of the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region at Shiseido. He succeeds Franck Marilly, who held this position since 2018, and has now become EMEA chairman for the Japanese cosmetics group.
“As Chairman of the Board, Franck Marilly will organise and oversee the work of the Board of Directors, for which he will report to the shareholders’ AGM (…) Franck Marilly will oversee the governance of the company and its subsidiaries to ensure compliance with ethics, transparency and regulatory standards, a responsibility that will contribute to the smooth running and the reputation of the Shiseido Group in the EMEA region,” a Shiseido spokesperson told FashionNetwork.com.
Marilly joined Shiseido in January 2018, having previously been the managing director Europe of Chanel’s Fragrance and Beauty division. He is also tasked with expanding Shiseido’s fragrance business globally.
Noé, formerly with L’Oréal as managing director of Lancôme Italy, has also worked at LVMH and Chanel. He joined the Shiseido group in 2013 as country manager Italy. In 2019, Noé was named chief business officer EMEA at Shiseido, before being appointed deputy managing director EMEA in January 2023.
In 2023, sales for Shiseido, whose brand portfolio includes Drunk Elephant and Gallinée, dropped by 8.8% to JPY973 billion. The group was chiefly affected by poor performances in China and the travel retail channel. In the same year, Japan and the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions recorded double-digit growth instead.
For the current fiscal year, Shiseido has forecast a 2.8% revenue growth. A few days ago, the group announced a plan to reorganise its operations in Japan, with 1,500 voluntary redundancies this year, equivalent to nearly 4% of its global workforce.
