SHOCKING images show the devastating aftermath of a huge blaze at an East Kilbride housing estate.

Fire crews were scrambled to Whitelee in the South Lanarkshire town yesterday after the alarm was raised around 4pm.

The inferno ripped through multiple homes in the street, with some of the roofs completely destroyed.

A firefighter on an aerial appliance was seen dousing the properties in a bid to extinguish the large scale fire.

Eyewitnesses reported thick black smoke billowing in the area which could be seen for around two miles.

It’s understand there are no casualties.

Images taken from the scene show the charred remains of the roofs as firefighters work to dampen down the burning debris.

One picture shows a scorched property which has entirely collapsed.

In another snap, a firefighter uses a hose through a broken window.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews are still in attendance at the scene.

“We have two pumps at the properties and this will be downgraded to one soon.”

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown.
