Shoppers are now creating ‘ALDI islands’ for entertaining large crowds

A savvy mum has gone viral with an image of a her “Charcuterie Island”, created using scores of bargain ALDI buys.

Sharing on a popular Facebook group, the ALDI shopper revealed how she created the enormous spread for a recent family gathering.

“Other than the cupcakes that were homemade and one jar of olives we bought everything from ALDI.

“Everyone was so impressed with all the yummy treats! ALDI for the win!”

The post sparked a huge response with more than 65,000 likes, shares and comments, prompting many to vow to create their own “ALDI Island”.

“Need this so much,” wrote one. “Perfect with Christmas parties just around the corner.”

“Next party, I am so doing an ALDI Island. Genius,” added another.

A third responded: “I want to be shipwrecked on Charcuterie Island.”

One more wrote: “I would be standing at this table for the entire time I’m at the party.”

Hygienic?

But while thousands applauded the spread, others criticised the concept saying it would be a “breeding ground for germs”.

“It just plain and simple is unhygienic,” one said. “I would not eat anything on that pool table, nor would I entertain it for a get together at my home.”

Another said: “What’s wrong with using plates? Gross.”

Others felt it was “wasteful” and that it was unlikely that all this food would’ve been eaten.

The negative posts lead many to defend the mum’s entertaining hack.

“Why can’t the Negative Nellies keep their comments to themselves! If you don’t like something, don’t post,” said one.

“No one cares what YOU think.”
