Canadian retailer Simons announced on Thursday the opening of its 17th store in Halifax, Nova Scotia, marking its arrival in the Maritimes and further expanding its presence across Canada.
Located within the Halifax Shopping Centre, the new 56,000 square foot location represents a $20 million investment and brings along with it the creation of 150 new job opportunities for the region.
“What a pleasure it is to become part of the Halifax community and to establish ourselves in this inspiring, warm and dynamic market. Our team is ready to welcome people from the Maritimes, and we’re confident that Simons Halifax will become an important destination for customers to discover inspiring products,” said Bernard Leblanc, president and CEO of Simons.
Crafted in collaboration with architectural and design firms LemayMichaud and McKinley Studios, the design of the new store reflects a thoughtful blend of art, history, and modernity.
Drawing inspiration from Canada’s diverse regions, each department within the store represents a different Canadian city or region: the Pacific Coast, the Okanagan Valley, the Rockies, the Prairies, the Arctic, the Great Lakes, Downtown Toronto, Old Montreal and the Maritimes. Meanwhile, the exterior facade pays homage to Halifax’s rich maritime heritage, with design elements reminiscent of the iconic sails of the Nova Scotian schooner, The Bluenose.
Completing the space is a curated selection of works by local artists including paintings of Peggy’s Cove by Nova Scotian artist Alyssa Doggett and textile art depicting the Prairies by Andrea Tsang Jackson. The Halifax store is also home to Vancouver’s Douglas Coupland’s National Portrait, an art installation composed of 3D-printed busts of Simons customers from across the country.
For shoppers, the store houses Simons’s exclusive collections including Twik, Icône, Contemporaine, Miiyu, Le 31, Djab, i.FiV5, and Simons Maison, as well as curated national and international brands.
