Spider-Man 4 to start shooting in late 2024, insider claims

You probably weren’t too surprised to wake up to the news that Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two was delayed by almost a year to May 23rd, 2025. The SAG-AFTRA strike is still unresolved, so studios still can’t start shooting new projects or resume their work on the ones that were in production when the actors went on strike in July.

That’s also why Marvel has reportedly delayed Deadpool 3.

That’s what you have to keep in mind when hearing the rumor that Sony and Marvel might plan to start shooting Spider-Man 4 in late 2024. The strike will hopefully be over by then, but studios will have plenty of new obstacles to overcome, as they’ll have to deal with logistics and scheduling issues involving top talent and the crews making these movies.

Still, a well-known leaker claims that’s when Sony wants to start production on the highly-anticipated sequel. Mind you, some spoilers might follow below.

Before the actors went on strike…

The last time we talked about the Spider-Man 4 release date plans was in mid-June, about a month before the SAF-AFTRA strike kicked off. But it was after the writers started their strike. At the time, we discussed two tentative release dates for Spider-Man 4: November 8th, 2024, and June 27th, 2025.

The former is out of the question right now. There’s really no way for Sony and Marvel to pull it off. And Spider-Man 4 has to be a great story, considering how well-received Spider-Man: No Way Home was. You absolutely don’t want to rush through this one, especially since we’re looking at a soft reboot of the franchise.

Not only that, but Spider-Man (Tom Holland) should be one of the central characters of the future Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 stories.

Sony’s Spider-Man 4 shooting plans

Fast-forward to mid-October, Daniel Richtman has learned that Sony wants to start shooting Spider-Man 4 in late 2024. It’s unclear what that means or how long filming will take. But No Way Home production spanned from mid-October 2020 through late March 2021. The movie then premiered a week ahead of Christmas 2021.

If Richtman’s information is accurate, Spider-Man 4 could get a late 2025 release date at best. That’s assuming Sony and Marvel can slot the movie in what’s probably going to be a busy schedule.

I’ll also remind you that Marvel might have to push back multiple MCU movies, not just Deadpool 3. As it is now, Marvel has two projects set to premiere in 2025, including Blade (February 2025) and Fantastic Four (May 2025).

The inevitable MCU calendar changes

Having Spider-Man 4 debut after the current Fantastic Four date would also suit Marvel’s Avengers plans. The Kang Dynasty would premiere in early May 2026, with Secret Wars arriving about a year later.

However, these calendar dates predate the actors’ strike. Whether Spider-Man 4 starts shooting in late 2024 or not, it’s likely the movie will hit theaters before the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. That’s Avengers: Secret Wars, of course.

At the very least, we know that Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, is happening. Marvel and Sony confirmed as much just as No Way Home started its successful theatrical run a few years ago. Also, we know from Sony that Spider-Man has to appear in a mysterious MCU crossover. We don’t know what that film is, however.

Finally, I’ll point out that Sony still has to make Spider-Man movies every few years to keep the rights to the Spider-Man universe. Strikes or not, Spider-Man 4 is certainly going to happen soon.
