St James arrest: Mirrabooka detectives charge man with burglary, fraud and stolen motor vehicle offences

The new WA Police helicopter has played a crucial role in apprehending a man wanted for a string of alleged burglary and fraud offences.

Mirrabooka detectives have charged the man with a host of burglary, fraud and stolen motor vehicle offences after he was spotted in St James on Thursday.

Police sprung into action on Thursday morning when a white Toyota Prius and a bag containing a mobile phone and other personal items were taken from a Wembley Downs home.

About 10.20am, police spotted that vehicle at an address in St James.

The new police helicopter was deployed to the scene, and they quickly located the alleged stolen vehicle parked in the carport of the address.

“While under observation by air assets, an unknown male attempted to obscure the vehicle licence plate from view. In company with another male person, this male departed the address in a different vehicle,” a police spokesman said.

That vehicle was followed to a shopping centre on Hill View Terrace in Bentley, and soon after, a 44-year-old St James man was arrested.

The 44-year-old man is now facing dozens of charges, including three counts of stealing, four counts of gains benefit by fraud, one charge of aggravated home burglary and commit and one count of possession of methylamphetamine.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
