Controversial South African singer Steve Hofmeyr is set to appear at a concert in Cape Town later this year. Unfortunately, many South Africans have protested his appearance at Hartklop in die Kaap, citing the artist’s highly controversial history and association with the far-right.

Hartklop in die Kaap is a South African music concert that’s set to take place later this year.

According to the event description, the concert is meant to “bring together the richness of South African culture the warmth of friends, and the joy of music, all in one fantastic event.”

The event is sponsored by Lift Airline, Bok Radio, and the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Tickets are still for sale online, despite protests that the concert should either be boycott or remove the artist from its list.

Hartklop in die Kaap (Heartbeat in the Cape) is set to take place on 29 December, 2023. According to official details, the concert takes place at the UCT Upper Campus Rugby Sports Grounds.
The controversial singer’s son, Armand, is also set to perform alongside his father.
Artists featured include Steve Hofmeyr, Kurt Darren, Die Heuwels Fantasties, and Bok van Blerk.

Why is the local singer considered one of the most controversial figures in its music history?
Hofmeyr has been in the spotlight multiple times, including for supporting the old South African flag. In another incident, he was taken to the SA Human Rights Commission – and apologized for his comments directed at the LGBTQIA+ community.

The controversy has spilled over into other members of his family, as Devon Hofmeyr (another son) recently confronted Bheki Cele in Brits, North-West over crime rates with members of the “Bittereinders”.
