The family of Perth dog attack victim Nikita Piil have revealed new information about her terrible ordeal, as she continues to recover in hospital from the horrific attack.
Nikita Piil, 31, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital just before 5pm last Saturday with devastating injuries to her arms and legs after she was set upon by at least one of her pet rottweilers in her Success home.
Officers were forced to use lethal force and shoot Ms Piil’s dog Bronx after their desperate attempts to taser and lead the dog away failed to stop the attack.
The other rottweiler, Harlem, was secured in the garage before it was taken away by rangers.
Now, Ms Pill’s family have set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with her recovery.
“As many of you know, our gorgeous Kita has been in the hospital due to the devastating and unnecessary dog attack, as seen on the news,” the page reads.
“Our family have been trying to avoid publicity as this is a very tough time for us and we do not want our darling Kita to re-live what has recently happened. We want her story to get out there when she’s ready.
“She loved and adored her dogs, and her friends and family have witnessed how much they loved her too. Unfortunately she got caught in a crossfire calming her dogs down due to an incident within the neighbourhood. There’s more to this story as to what the media has told.”
The page goes on to say that the 31-year-old has a difficult recovery ahead of her.
“She has a long road ahead to recovery and every dollar counts, no matter how big or small. We know that times are tough and we appreciate any donation to get her through this difficult time,” it said.
So far the page has raised more $7,000.
Earlier this week, the breeder who sold a rottweiler to Ms Pill shed light on what may have triggered the furious mauling.
Speaking to The West Australian on the condition of anonymity, the dog breeder who sold Harlem as a puppy to Ms Piil said she was devastated by the news.
“No breeder ever wants to hear that their dogs are involved in anything like that,” she said.
“It’s not likely that a rottweiler would attack anybody for no reason.
“I think that in this instance, there must have been a dog fight between the two dogs and I feel that maybe the owner has got involved to try and separate the dogs and somehow gotten in between it.
“That’s how I possibly think it’s happened.”
