Sundowns are not the best but rely on analysis

Mamelodi Sundowns stopper Ronwen Williams explains why they are not the best but rely on analysis and corrections.

The Sundowns keeper, Williams also says they are not getting the recognition for playing every three days in different competitions.

As things stand, Sundowns compete in the Caf Champions League, Nedbank Cup, and the DStv Premiership – Williams wants credit.

While there is the argument that Sundowns buy the best players, Williams says analysis and hard work bring the results.

Looking at the log table, the runaway log leaders, Sundowns have 46 points from 18 matches and remain unbeaten.

ARE SUNDOWNS PLAYERS NOT THE BEST – WILLIAMS SPEAKS OF ANALYSIS

The former SuperSport United stopper spoke to Phakaaathi about Sundowns’ dominance in the league.

He says he has had about eight corrections made by coach Rulani Mokwena as they look to retain their league crown.

With 12 games left to play in the league, the Sundowns’ machine is proving difficult to stop as they chase their seventh successive title.

“It’s (PSL) very competitive and we can see that but I don’t think people give us credit for everything that we do and the way we play,” Williams told Phakaaathi.

“To play every three days in all these different competitions and do well is not easy.

“People think that we buy the best players and automatically we should be the best but that’s not the case.

“We do so much hard work on the field and in the boardroom. We do so much analysis and so many corrections for each and every game.

“Even at training we do corrections and that’s what makes us who we are. It’s not about the names because in the last game that we have played.

“I think I got about eight corrections to do but people won’t see that. They only see that saves that I make and the build-up play.”

WHY WILLIAMS IS A KEY FIGURE AND THE BEST FOR SUNDOWNS

The 32-year-old Gqeberha-born stopper, Williams boasts 24 clean sheets across all competitions for Sundowns this term.

“We are so hard on ourselves because we want to be the best at everything that we do,” adds Williams.

“We know sometimes it’s impossible but we strive so hard to be close to perfection but people won’t give us credit.

“The technical team always congratulates us because they know the struggles that we we go through.”

Up next for the Brazilians is a tough Champions League clash against Young Africans on April 30 away from home.
