Sydney have delisted six players as the trade period begins

Twelve months after he had 14 disposals in a grand final Ryan Clarke has been cut loose by Sydney among six players delisted by the Swans as they make room for the potential arrival of Collingwood’s Taylor Adams and ruckman Brodie Grundy.

On Monday the Swans confirmed Ryan Clarke, Will Gould, Hugo Hall-Kahan, Cameron Owen, Lachlan Rankin and Marc Sheather wouldn’t not be offered new contracts with the club for the 2024 season.

Clarke, who played 16 games in 2023 including the final six of the home and away season, was the most high-profile axing having played games in the red and white including the 2022 grand final smashing by Geelong, in which he had 14 possessions.

Gould, who only played four senior games, is the second player from Sydney’s 2019 draft crop set to leave the club with Dylan Stephens seeking a trade.

The Swans pulled off a trade coup by luring Magpies vice-captain Adams, who missed his team’s grand final win through injury, to the club with his trade likely to be finalised this week.

Grundy is also set to join the Swans after just one season at Melbourne.

Sydney football boss Charlie Gardiner said it was the time of year for tough list decisions to be made,

“This time of the year is always tough when difficult list management decisions need to be made.

“Ryan, Will, Marc, Lachie, Hugo and Cam have all made valuable contributions to the Swans. We are very grateful for their hard work and dedication to our football program.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, we wish each player all the very best for their futures and we hope they continue to work towards maximising their football potential.”
