With 22 light installations, there is plenty to see over the course of this route which starts at Northbridge Piazza and finishes up at Elizabeth Quay.

If you are doubtful little legs can walk that far, there is also the shorter, family-friendly Merry Mile. The displays are lit up every night, 6pm to 3am, until January 2, with additional free entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.

Want to check out some residential Christmas lights near you? Synergy has you covered. People who are going all out with decorations can register with Synergy, and Christmas lights enthusiasts can use the site to build their own Xmas light trial.

Participating houses should display a QR code, and when you scan it, Synergy will donate $1 to charity RUAH Community Services. Check it out at xmaslightstrail.com.au.

Mandurah Christmas Lights Trail

Starting on Friday, the trail runs from the Eastern Foreshore, Mandjar Square and the Mandurah Ocean Marina. Keep an eye out for Santa on the foreshore, although standing at four metres he might be hard to miss.

Visitors should also glimpse a reindeer and sleigh, a Christmasy Volkswagen bus, and even a pirate ship.

The lights are on each night in December from 6:30pm to midnight until January 7.

The Wanneroo Botanic Gardens host this spectacular lights display.

From Wednesday, five acres of the gorgeous garden will be lit up to explore.

You can even try your hand at a round of glow-in-the-dark mini-golf. There are two sessions nightly, 5pm to 7pm and 8pm to 10pm and the event runs from Wednesday to January 7.

Not a major official event, but if you like a little DIY with your lights, then this suburban stronghold of Christmas cheer is one to check out.

The residents of Consulate Court are closing in on a quarter of a century of decorating their houses.

Park at the nearby Forest Lakes Shopping Centre and walk over. It all kicks off on Friday, December 1 and runs until the 25th.
