Taylor Swift’s concerts are projected to generate an estimated 34.1 billion yen (equivalent to approximately $229.6 million), according to Mitsumasa Etou, a spokesperson for the research platform Economic Effects NET and a part-time lecturer at Tokyo City University, as per the CNN report.
Mitsumasa Etou described Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as Japan’s most significant musical event in terms of projected economic impact. It is anticipated to exceed the revenue generated by one of Japan’s largest music festivals — Fuji Rock — which garnered approximately 20 billion yen (equivalent to about $134.6 million) last year, CNN reported.
Etou said that the estimated figures for Swift’s tour do not even encompass the potential impact of international tourists traveling to Japan specifically for the Eras Tour concert, according to a CNN report.
Richard Clarke, an analyst at investment firm Bernstein, warned that the economic effects might be less pronounced in a bustling city like Tokyo, which boasts numerous hotels and can therefore readily handle an influx of fans, compared to smaller cities, CNN reported.
