CBS has chosen stand-up comedian Taylor Tomlinson as the host for its new late-night show “After Midnight.” The show is produced by Stephen Colbert, who made the announcement during Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Tomlinson then joined Colbert on stage to discuss the news.
Tomlinson’s recent TV appearances include her Netflix comedy specials “Look At You” and “Quarter Life Crisis.”
As previously announced, “After Midnight” will debut in early 2024, taking over the slot previously occupied by “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” The show is based on “@midnight,” which aired from October 2013 to August 2017 as a panel series featuring guest comedians interacting with host Chris Hardwick.
Earlier this year, Tomlinson signed a deal with Netflix for her next two stand-up specials. Her latest special, filmed in Washington, D.C., is set to premiere in 2024.
Tomlinson gained popularity in 2020 with the release of “Quarter-Life Crisis” on Netflix, just before the pandemic began. She is also currently working on a Village Roadshow Pictures film based on her upbringing, which she co-wrote with Taylor Tetreau and will star in, under the direction of Paul Weitz.
Jack Martin, the showrunner for all four seasons of “@midnight,” and Eric Pierce will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on “After Midnight.” Comedian and writer Jo Firestone will be the co-executive producer and head writer, while Alexx Wells will also serve as co-executive producer.
The executive producers of the show include Stephen Colbert, Carrie Byalick (president of Spartina Industries), Tom Purcell (executive producer at “The Late Show”), Evelyn McGee Colbert, and James Dixon of Dixon Talent. They are joined by executive producers Joe Farrell, Mike Farah, Whitney Hodack, and Henry R. Muñoz III from Funny Or Die, as well as Jason U. Nadler of Serious Business, who co-created “@midnight.”
