Tennis star Novak Djokovic stops for selfie with Perth fan on Rottnest Island

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has made one fan’s day after stopping to snap a selfie with him on Rottnest Island.

The world No.1 and 24-time Grand Slam champion was all smiles as he posed with Jack Dyer and his mum at popular swimming spot Parakeet Bay.

Dyer said despite being busy, Djokovic was happy to take the time for a quick photo.

“He was only on the beach for about 10 minutes and was busy getting interviewed and filmed,” Dyer said.

“He was very happy to get a picture with my Mum and I when we asked, as well as with a few other people on the beach.”

Djokovic arrived in WA on Thursday evening ahead of his first match in the state for a decade — the mixed-teams United Cup.

The Game Cricket 2023-24

Serbia will take on China and the Czech Republic in the group stage, with Djokovic set to face world No.58 Zhizhen Zhang and world No.31 Jiri Lehecka in his men’s singles matches.

Djokovic will carry the load for Serbia in Perth, but it’s the Australian Open that is the main prize this summer.

The 36-year-old won three grand slams in 2023, including a famous victory at the Australian Open.

That success came just a year after he was deported from Australia for refusing to have the COVID-19 vaccine.

Djokovic recently expressed his desire to emulate NFL star Tom Brady by playing into his 40s.

It means his current trip to Australia is by no means a farewell.
