Test to be conducted to select top 300 scholars for research fellowship in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: For the first time, the state government will conduct a test to select top 300 PhD candidates across disciplines to provide a research fellowship of Rs 30,000 per month. It will help the research scholars, who do not get any fellowships from other agencies.
The examination, namely Mukhya Mantri Research Fellowship Test(MRFT) is a standardized examination aimed at identifying exceptional research talents across Odisha’s public universities.Its main objective is to design and conduct a model test and evaluation system in the number of subjects being pursued leading to aPhD degree in Odisha.
The webportal has been opened for applicants from Saturday for the MRFT 2023. Last date of applying online is December 30. Candidates can apply for the MRFT through the ‘Student Academic Management System (SAMS)’ portal. The State Selection Board (SSB) under the aegis of the higher education department will conduct this test. Applicants’ data will be submitted to SSB by January 26.
“Date of examination will be notified by the higher education department prior to 10 days of the examination day,” said Rajata Kumar Mansingh, deputy director of the department in an official letter.
Candidates can appear for the test in 47 subjects. Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) will coordinate this exercise. MRFT results and the merit list will be displayed on the SSB/SAMS portal. Successful MRFT candidates will become eligible for the fellowship provided they complete all the formalities like pre-PhD courses and registration under a supervisor.
The examination will consist of a single paper with multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that assess general knowledge, research aptitude, logical reasoning, as well as subject knowledge, and analytical abilities. The test will be of two hours duration for 100 marks available in English language except language and literature subjects like Odia and Urdu.
The question paper will have two parts. The first part (part-A) will be of 30 marks testing general knowledge, research aptitude, and logical reasoning abilities whereas the second part (part-B) of 70 marks will test the subject knowledge as well as analytical abilities.
Candidates who have completed their bachelors and master’s degree in the relevant subjects from a recognized university with a first division or grade equivalent in the concerned subject are eligible to apply.
