‘That 70’s Show’ actor Masterson sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women

“That ’70s Show” actor Danny Masterson has been sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women. These women have accused the Church of Scientology of protecting Masterson and attempting to silence them. Masterson, a prominent Scientologist, was convicted in May and the judge imposed the maximum sentence allowed by law. He will be eligible for parole in 25-1/2 years. Masterson met the women through the Church of Scientology, which they claim discouraged them from reporting the incidents to law enforcement. The Church denies these allegations and argues that religion should not be a factor in the case. Masterson’s accusers stated that he drugged and raped them between 2001 and 2003. One of the victims, who was a Scientologist at the time, described the organization as an “enabler and protector” for Masterson. She also mentioned experiencing harassment from the Church when she tried to speak out about the rape. The other victim revealed that her mother, a Scientologist, disowned her after she criticized the group during the trial. Actress Leah Remini, a former Scientologist, supported one of the victims in court. Both victims requested a life sentence for Masterson, stating that he ruined their lives. Masterson’s defense attorney plans to appeal the case based on alleged errors.
