The world’s tallest male dog Kevin dies shortly after achieving Guinness World Record

Just days after being crowned the world’s tallest male dog, a three-year-old Great Dane named Kevin died.

Announcing the news on Monday, the Guinness World Records were sad to advise the larger-than-life hound had passed following “unexpected health complications”.

Living with his family in the US state of Iowa, Kevin’s owner, Tracey Wolfe, paid tribute to the beloved pet after unplanned surgery proved unsuccessful.

“Our whole family is devastated about Kevin. He was just the best giant boy!“ she said.

“We are so glad that he was able to break the record and have that light on him. He absolutely adored the attention.

“I wish these giant breeds and all dogs could live longer than they do. It’s never enough time.”

Claiming the unique title in May, Kevin was officially measured at 0.97m (3 ft 2 in) tall from his feet to his withers, though he reached a remarkable 2.13m (7 ft) when standing on his hind legs.

He took the mantle from fellow Great Dane Zeus, who died last year at three.

Ms Wolfe described the lovable larrikin as a “gentle giant” who enjoyed lounging on the sofa and ‘showering’ his family with affection.

“Kevin’s favourite activity is probably taking naps. Holding the couch down is his favourite pastime, I think,” she said after the record was achieved.

“Kevin is funny, and he is super duper friendly. In fact, overly friendly. You don’t want to keep your mouth open too much when he’s around.

“But everybody loves seeing him as long as they don’t get whipped by his tail.”

Despite his towering stature, the greatest of Great Danes was known to be a ‘scaredy cat’ and displayed a fear of his family’s vacuum cleaner.

Ms Wolfe said Kevin drew interest from members of the public on family outings and was excited to have his imposing stature officially recognised.
