Thomas Kingston, Husband of the King’s Cousin Lady Gabriella Kingston, Died of “Catastrophic Head Wound”

A coroner has testified that financier Thomas Kingston, whose death at the age of 45 was announced by the palace this week, died of a gunshot wound to the head, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious. According to The Telegraph, Gloucestershire’s senior coroner Katy Skerrett said Kingston was found Sunday with a “catastrophic head wound” at an outbuilding near his parent’s house in the Cotswolds, adding that “a gun was present at the scene.”

Kingston married Lady Gabriella Windsor, a second cousin of King Charles III and the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, in a 2019 St. George’s Chapel ceremony. A statement released on behalf of Lady Gabriella, Thomas’ parents Jill and Martin Kingston, and his sisters, Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray read, “Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him.”

In the early 2000s, Kingston served as a hostage negotiator in Iraq, before returning to the UK to take a job at an asset management firm. At the time of his death, he was a director at Devonport Capital, which provides loans to businesses in the developing world. Kingston and Gabriella, a writer and editor, were introduced by mutual friends in 2015, and in 2018 he proposed to her on the Channel Island of Sark, where his parents have a vacation home. The couple had no children.

On Tuesday, the king and Queen Camilla shared their condolences for the family. “The king and the queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family,” read a palace statement. “In particular, their majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family.”
